Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the developing world

Policy Guidance

Basic Health International collaborates with the Ministries of Health in Latin American countries at the national and community level.  Since 2005, BHI has worked with the Ministry of Health in El Salvador to improve national cervical cancer screening programs by training physicians in VIA and cryotherapy, educating health promoters regarding HPV and cervical cancer and to providing cervical cancer screenings to women living in rural areas.

We have developed technical manuals used by the Ministry of Health to train physicians in VIA and have worked with the World Health Organization to develop technical guidelines for the administration of cryotherapy in low-resource settings.

Additionally, BHI serves as technical advisors to help develop sustainable public health policies and programs that will strengthen the impact of ongoing health interventions.
