Our chief medical officer, Dr. Mauricio Maza, was recently chosen as one of 50 leaders in cancer research from low- and middle- income countries by the IARC’s “50 for 50” initiative. As one of the 50 leaders selected, Dr. Maza was invited to share his experiences, discuss with world experts, and expand his network for cancer research at a two-day work shop hosted by the IARC. After the conference, Dr. Maza was given the opportunity to attended the “Global Cancer Occurrence, Causes, and Avenues to Prevention” conference in Lyon, France. This conference was hosted by the IARC to celebrate their 50th anniversary, and was attended by over 1,000 leading experts on cancer research. Dr. Maza was one of the invited speakers at this conference, and the only invited speaker from Latin America. He presented the talk: How Research Can Lead to Implementation in Limited Resource Settings: the Case of El Salvador. We at BHI are very proud of his accomplishment!
